Burna Boy Funds N250m School, Clinic Project in Ahoada West,Verydarkman Announces Commissioning
Burna Boy Ahoada West project worth N250 million is set to be commissioned on Saturday, October 10, 2026, with a newly built secondary school and clinic facility expected to be unveiled in Odiokwu Community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The project, funded by Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy, is one of the major community development interventions to have emerged from the controversy surrounding the poor condition of public infrastructure in the area.
Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, announced the commissioning in a post inviting Ratels and members of the public to attend the event.
According to the announcement, the commissioning will take place on Saturday and will feature the formal unveiling of the newly constructed school and clinic.
VeryDarkMan said the project cost N250 million and was fully funded by Burna Boy. He also credited Fego Works Limited with the construction of the facilities, while noting that he personally supervised the project.
The development follows months of attention on the poor state of educational infrastructure in Odiokwu and the wider Ahoada West area.
The issue gained national attention earlier in 2026 after concerns were raised over the condition of Community Secondary School, Odiokwu. Reports at the time described a school struggling with serious infrastructure problems, including damaged roofs and ceilings, broken windows and doors, inadequate desks and other basic facilities. The situation generated widespread reactions after a young woman from the community raised public awareness about the condition of the school.
VeryDarkMan subsequently visited the community and became involved in efforts to rebuild the school.
In an earlier update, he said Burna Boy had intervened after learning about the condition of the community and offered to take responsibility for the reconstruction. VeryDarkMan said his role was to supervise the project and ensure that the money committed to the work was properly used.
The project has since moved beyond the initial plan to repair the old structure.
VeryDarkMan had previously shared updates showing the development of a new school facility, including classrooms, a clinic, football field and perimeter fencing. A report published in August also said the project had reached an advanced stage, with VeryDarkMan highlighting the quality of the construction and the facilities being provided for students and residents.
The latest announcement now indicates that the project is ready for commissioning.
The N250 million figure announced for the Odiokwu project represents a significant private contribution to public infrastructure in the community. The project is particularly notable because the facilities are intended to serve residents who previously had limited access to properly equipped educational and healthcare infrastructure.
VeryDarkMan has repeatedly linked the project to the need for better opportunities for children in the area.
The intervention also comes after Burna Boy publicly became involved in the issue. Earlier reports confirmed that the singer had pledged to support the rebuilding of the school and the provision of healthcare facilities in the community. Premium Times reported in March that Burna Boy had stepped in after the poor condition of the school attracted public attention, with plans also involving a health centre.
In a later update, VeryDarkMan said the Odiokwu project had already consumed close to N200 million at the time, with Burna Boy continuing to fund the work. He also said another project was planned for Ogbogolo in Ahoada West.
The latest commissioning announcement suggests the Odiokwu project has now reached the stage where the completed facilities can be formally handed over for community use.
VeryDarkMan also used the announcement to recognise Ogadinma Minnie Uchechi, whom he described as a key figure in drawing attention to the condition of the community’s educational facilities.
The young woman became part of the wider public conversation after speaking out about the state of the school. Her concerns helped bring the condition of the facility to a much larger audience online.
The project is therefore coming to completion after a chain of events that began with public concern about a deteriorating school and eventually attracted the intervention of one of Nigeria’s biggest music stars.
Beyond the school and clinic, Saturday’s event will also include a football competition involving Ahoada East and Ahoada West teams.
According to VeryDarkMan’s announcement, the winning team will receive N1 million.
The football match is expected to add a community celebration to the commissioning ceremony, bringing residents together alongside the official unveiling of the facilities.
For Ahoada West residents, the significance of the project goes beyond the financial value attached to the construction.
A properly equipped secondary school can provide students with a more suitable environment for learning, while a functional clinic can provide residents with easier access to basic healthcare services within their community.
The intervention also highlights the growing role of private individuals, entertainers and social organisations in addressing infrastructure gaps that affect communities across Nigeria.
The Burna Boy Ahoada West project has attracted attention partly because of the scale of the intervention and partly because of the public journey that preceded it.
From complaints about the condition of a school to the decision to rebuild the facility, the project has remained a subject of public discussion for months.
With the commissioning scheduled for October 10, attention will now shift to the formal unveiling and the eventual use of the facilities by students, teachers and residents of Odiokwu.
The event is expected to bring together community members, project stakeholders and supporters who have followed the development from its early stages.
For Burna Boy, the project represents a major contribution to his home community. For VeryDarkMan, it is another public project in which he has taken an active supervisory role.
The commissioning will provide an opportunity for the community to officially receive the completed facilities and begin making use of them.
As the people of Odiokwu prepare for Saturday’s event, the focus will be on the new school, the clinic and what the facilities could mean for children and families in Ahoada West.
